Since I have received the grant, I have found a wonderful new job and have started the process necessary to be able to go back to school in the fall. I owe much of who I’ve become to WWIN. At a time in my life when I needed a little extra help, WWIN was there.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question about WWIN, please review the list below. We’ve compiled quick answers to some of  the most common questions below. If you don’t find your answer here check out the other sections of “How to Apply” or email us at programs@WWIN.org.

Q. Who is eligible for a WWIN grant?

WWIN provides grants to low income women in Washington who are US citizens, permanent residents, refugees or asylees that  are 18 years of age and older.  There is no age limit.  You can be single, married, widowed, or divorced, with or without children.  However, please be aware that we serve only the very low income population. Eligibility is evaluated against established financial criteria based on federal poverty guidelines and the size of the household.  You will be required to complete a detailed application, verify its accuracy, and  return it within the specified time frame.

Q. What information is required for the application?

The grant applications require information about your name, age, address, marital status, identification, household members/living situation, your income and job status and includes some brief questions about what things you are looking to change in your life, how you heard about WWIN, and why you are interested in applying for a WWIN grant.

Q. Can I apply online for grants?

Our Education grant is set up so that you can access the application online on specific days.  You must complete it, sign it, and return it to WWIN by mail.  The  other grants are handled via a call-in phone line or a message line process.

Q. How do I know if I have been approved for a grant?

A staff member or volunteer for WWIN will contact you by phone to go over your application in detail and evaluate  your eligibility.  Once your eligibility has been established, an in-person appointment is set up for you to come to the WWIN office and meet with the program staff to go over the application and grant process.

Q. Can a grantee receive more than one WWIN grant?

Women in Washington state are eligible to receive up to two education grants and one grant of each of the counseling, insurance premium, and dental grants during their lifetime, for a maximum dollar amount among all the grants of $10,000.

Q. Can my interview be conducted on the phone?

We like to establish a personal connection with our grantees, and we require that each woman makes an in-person visit to the WWIN office to receive her grant.  The meeting will  last about an hour, and we provide you with some background on the WWIN organization, review your application and identification, and explain the grant thoroughly.  You will also be required to sign the grant and state your understanding of its terms and your responsibilities.

Q. How are the grants paid out?

All grant money is  paid directly to the provider or educational institution, once WWIN has received the invoices for completed authorized services and the invoices are approved by WWIN. No payments are made directly to the grantees.

Q. How can I find out more information about grants and programs?

The website has detailed information on the Programs page and the How To Apply pages. Additionally, WWIN has a recorded message with detailed information at 425-451-8838 extension 305. You may also reach us through the website with a general question, or you may contact our Programs office at programs@WWIN.org or at 425-451-8838 extension 301.

Q. Can I come to the WWIN office without an appointment?

No. We are a very small office and are often meeting with grantees, so we are not able to support walk-ins at the office.

Q. Where can I find other resources?

There is also a 24-hour crisis line  206-461-3222, and in the case of an emergency, please dial 911.

Q. Can WWIN help me with housing, clothing, childcare, toys, or food assistance?

No, WWIN was established to assist very low income women with education and health care as we believe those items will provide women with the tools to make long-term, positive change in their lives.
